I have a concern. I have a broadband connection and
Firewall software, but when I go to shut down, I get a
message that other people are using this computer and If I
shut down they may lose data. I am the only person logged
onto the computer. What is the likely cause of this and is
there a solution. My firewall software shows that I am
nearly 97% protected.

chances are you have an open port - run www.grc.com and if it shows port 135
or 139 open - you need to shut things down - like disabling netbious from
your nic card.

personally, rather than relying simply on a software firewall, I would put
an inexpensive DSL/Cable box between my PC and the broadband connection.

The message you got has nothing to do with your connections or firewall,
lol. Used to get it when change between accounts, e.g. from administrator to
a user, and want shut down. That message is harmless, shall be ignored if
you are the only user and you know what unfinished matters you left while
operating in your other account.

By the way Kevin's advices though irrelevant to the current question are
very good for your security!
