Upgrading to XP

I want to know if XP is like 98 in the fact that you can
install the upgrade version onto a clean hard drive and
the install will just ask you for a precious version's cd
to proceed. Is this the case?

Yes, the upgrade CD of XP will ask to see proof of qualifying media during
setup and is capable of performing a clean install.
