Messenger API in .NET

Has anyone done any programming with the messenger API in .NET? I'm trying
to write a little app that will retrieve my contacts from the Messenger
service. The main problem I'm having is hooking any Event Handlers always
generates an exception "0x80040202 - CONNECT_E_CANNOTCONNECT" . What is
different to using this API in .NET from other Disp Interfaces?
