View Full Version : Un hiding system folders

Can anyone help me please. I cannot access hidden system files and folders.
I have gone through the process of selecting 'Tools' then 'Folder Options',
'View' and un-ticking 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)'
but it doesn't work. It goes through the motions but I still can't see them.
I have also selected all that would perhaps enable - but nothing.

I have a virus in the folder 'System Volume Information' but can't access it
as it is hidden. I have tried six different virus scanners but none detect
it - possibly because it is in a protected system folder.

Thanks for any help,

Ian

Hi Ian

If you have a virus in the SVI folder you need to do the following:

Right click on My Computer, select Properties and then the System =
Restore tab. Enable 'Turn of System Restore on all drives' - reboot =
straight away. After that reboot go back into SR and disable 'Turn of =
System Restore on all drives' - reboot again. When your PC has finished =
that last reboot, the virus would have been deleted and SR would have =
created one new point for you. Please note that all other SR Points =
will have been deleted.

Thanks for the help, and I've done as you suggested but I also want to be
able to see the folder but can't. I've tried going through the 'Tools',
'Folder Options' etc. as you can read below - but still I can't get to
actually see any system folders. Do you know what I have to do? By the way,
I installed a 'unhide' tool which I can't uninstall and since then I've been
unable to see system folders. Therefore I also can't check to see if the
virus has gone - but the windows box that usually appears when the computer
is unattended for a long time didn't appear overnight so it may be cured.
However, I do want to be able to check thoroughly

Thanks for any help

Ian.
