Can i recall instant messages?

i was wondering if i can go back in an view my instant
messages after i have shut down the window and if so how
do i do that? same with emails?

Messenger doesn't automatically log conversations. To have this capability, use Messenger

As for e-mail, it doesn't go away unless you delete it.
