View Full Version : Windows Messenger 4.7.2005 -- not transmitting video/sound

XP Pro SP1 with a USB Logitech camera with built-in microphone. As far
as I can tell, the camera and microphone are working normally. I can
launch the camera and see me in the video.
When starting the camera in Windows Messenger 4.7.2005 (and all previous
versions as well) and my correspondent accepts the camera, the camera
turns on and I can see myself in the PIP. I can also talk and see the
mic levels jump up and down, so it appears that it hears me. But my
correspondent can neither see the video nor hear the sound. I can hear
him famously on my speakers, but he has no camera, so nothing to see
there.
Any thoughts? Is there some twiddle I've missed that sends the
video/audio?

hi bob, im havin problems too.
does your friend have any firewalls up or Norton or something because a
friend of mine has his set-up so that the pc thinks that legitimate
file-transfers are attacks on his system.
does messenger say that the connection is established?
what about when you end the link? are there any problems with that?
I posted a similar question last night and I've received no response as yet
which implies to me that Microsoft haven't got this sussed as yet.
oh yeah I have the usb Logitech pro 4000 and my mate receives both visual
and audio from me so yours should be okay but my friends system reboots as
soon as I disconnect the camera connection
best of luck

We've tried it both with firewalls up and down -- same results.

Yes. From Messenger's point of view, everything appears to be working
normally. Just -- he gets no video/sound.
> what about when you end the link? are there any problems with that?
Nope -- I can turn it on and off at will with no problems at all.

Well, "Microsoft" doesn't really look at this newsgroup. It's pretty
much entirely peer-to-peer -- users helping each other, with some very
clever users (MVPs) doing most of the work.

No reboots here. My camera is a Logitech 3000. Hopefully someone will
have an answer for us.

Same problems here. My daughter was down from Seattle {Im in Houston} and I set her up on a new machine. Installed XP Pro while I use XP Home. Both had windows messenger 4.7 installed. Both going thru a linksys router and both camera's worked fine. Now that she is back in Seattle she can see and here me fine, but all I see on my camera is myself. She has no firewalls turned on. I kind of stumped on this one and would appreciate any help. BTW the linksys router is on my end...

Chris,
Where did you get V4.6.0078? I can't get any success with either
V4.7.0105 or V4.7.2009. If I could get ANY version that works, I
could eliminate router configuration as my problem.
