How did you get this information? Windows Messenger is a client product
which
will run on XP.

The new RTC server, code-named Greenwich, may run only on
Server 2003, but most likely also on Windows 2000.

Windows Messenger 4.7 is dead. It is no longer being updated.

The beta documentation states: "The Windows Messenger version 5.0 client
supports the following operating systems: Windows 2000 and Windows XP."

Will the "SIP Communications Service Account" section that appears on the
screen shots appear on W2K computers? Or just WinXP computers?

That must be it, then! It certainly helps explain why certain references
indicate that W2K *doesn't* support SIP, whereas other references say that
it does. Anyone know where this might be documented?

What I meant was, is the addition of SIP documented anywhere from Windows
2000 perspective? It's now apparent that SIP support--or at least the hooks
for it--are part of SP3, which (of course) is not preliminary...yet I
couldn't find any reference to it in the SP3 readme files.

It's not just an academic question, BTW. We need to know as soon as possible
whether SIP is compatible with our 17,000 W2K computers. If it can be
authoritatively documented that SP3 adds SIP support, then we can expedite
its implementation.

In this particular case it is actually the Windows Messenger installation
adding the support, not the Windows 2000 Service Pack.

If you're interested in the platforms supported by the Greenwich RTC
solution, please follow up with the beta forums for that product to get more
details. This public newsgroup is not a totally appropriate place to be
discussing leaked beta software details.
