Is it possible to setup a simple LAN workgroup(2
computers) and have a client computer2 access and run the
application on the main computer in a LAN without a stand
alone server?

sure, if your application supports multi user.
otherwise, if both systems are Windows XP, you can use Remote Desktop to
login and access Computer1 from Computer2.
