MSN Messenger 5, cant right click, plese help!

Hi all, i have a little problem with messenger 5, for the last few days i
have been nable to right click during a conversation chat, which is a shame
as i do copy and pastes very often.I even uninstalled it and then
reinstalled it but its still the same. Thing is that the XPmessenger 4.7...
works fine. Anyone has any suggestions, apart from using the XP's one.

The exact cause of this has yet to be determined. Instead, use the keyboard shortcuts
(Ctrl-C to Copy, and Ctrl-V to Paste) or click the Edit menu in the conversation window.

Why did you install MSN-Messenger ?
The latest Windows Xp version is 4.7 something !
If your operating system = Windows XP, than you should stick to
WINDOWS-Messenger.

MSN Messenger 5.0 was also made for Windows XP. So, there is no reason why
he cannot use the program. There are a lot of us that are using it, simply
because it supports UPnP File transfer.

The issue with no context menu to paste text into a conversation is a known
issue, the part that is currently unknown is why it is happening. It has
nothing to do with the fact that he is running it on Windows XP.

There are two versions because they were split.

When Windows XP came out, the idea was that MSN Messenger would be the IM
client for non-XP users. Windows Messenger would be the "MSN" IM client for
XP users.

At some point during the MSN 5.0 Beta, MSN 5.0 was an "upgrade" to Windows
Messenger 4.7, it even upgraded over Windows Messenger 4.7 so you only had
one version.

Towards the end of the beta, someone high up at Microsoft decided that the
MSN Development team would develop MSN Messenger 5.x and all future
versions. This same person, assigned the Windows Development team the job of
developing all future versions of Windows Messenger.

At this time, it was also decided that Windows Messenger would lose some of
it's features, these included Tabs and the ability to "make a phone call".
It was also decided that, since they are two separate programs, that the MSN
versions should be available to be used on the XP platform, and this was
done. Future versions of Windows Messenger will now run on Windows 2000, but
it won't run on any other previous versions of Windows.

I have heard that in the future, the decision to split the two into separate
versions will become clear. We'll just have to be patient and wait to see it
all come together. Who knows, one day, there may be only one version again,
but, I won't hold my breath on that one.

that computer?

No Andrew, just a standard desktop PC.
Its all been working fine until a few days ago.Now for some weird reason i
cant right click, but that is only for messenger though.

MS needs to insure that in the future users do not need to have both
Messengers on their system and that they have to switch between them because
of differences in functionality. Maybe one will eventually become a
superset of the other in functionality and size and only be required if some
of the additional functionality is needed.
