Running XP I have one hard disk fixed (C:) and one USB 2 HD which I
never plug/unplug assigned as drive D:. the problem is if I plug in a
multi format card reader now and again, it will move the D: drive to
the end of the line, say J: or whatever, and when I unplug the multi
card reader the old D: drive will stay stuck on J: and I need to go
into dick manaegment and change it back again, what a palaver.

Can I lock the D: drive (USB2)?

Why does plugging new USB drives in bugger up existing drive letters,
why dont they just move onto the next available letter?

Out of interest does it make a difference what USB port the "USB 2 HD" (eg
D:) is connected to?

Perhaps it's to do with the port order? Daft I know.
