View Full Version : Number Lock

Number lock turns off everytime I log off. Is there
something I can do to stop this.

I log off to use the security when I am away from my
desk. When I log back on I type the security code, which
has numbers in it, and I get the "have you forgotten your
password".

Not serious but an incovenience.

Refer to microsoft's knowledge base article 315468 which reads:

SUMMARY
This article describes how to enable the NUM LOCK key for the logon screen.
MORE INFORMATION
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

The status of the NUM LOCK key is specific for each user, and by default, it
is disabled. If you want to enable the NUM LOCK key for use before a user
presses CTRL+ALT+DEL to log on, you must use Registry Editor to change the
default behavior. To enable NUM LOCK before a user logs on, use Registry
Editor (Regedt32.exe) to locate the following registry key:
HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard

Change the value of the InitialKeyboardIndicators value in this key from 0
to 2.

For additional information about how to set the NUM LOCK state at logon by
using a logon script ID, click the article number below to view the article
in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Be sure to back up the registry prior to making any changes.

You might just be able to enter the BIOS on boot up and change that setting
for the NUM LOCK.

That doesn't work, even with numlock on enable in the BIOS, Windows
XP, W2K ignores it, you need to edit the registry as previously
mentioned, it works fine

Oh, my. And this from an "expert." Not much chance I'll be
buying any of *your* books anytime soon.

Yeah! Really scarry isn't it. However in his defense, many sites do
suggest to turn on the num lock feature in the bios. It would work for all
previous versions of Windows, but with the upgrade to 2000 or XP it doesn't
work anymore. You have to edit the registry as I said in my earlier.
