I'm on a new PC laptop. Whenever the cable modem is
connected, I get messenger spam, and lots of it! Clicking
messenger icon off doesn't help. Even tossing messenger
into the trash doesn't help. Anyway I can disable those
pesky incoming messages??

Thanks,
Chris

Hi

To solve your problem with MSN Messenger spam, simply enable the Microsoft
Windows XP firewall. I disabled it temporarily to send a buddy a few files
and before I new it I was getting annoying pop-ups.

As soon as the firewall was re-enabled. Everything seemed fine.

If that seems not to work, there is a shareware solution at:
http://www.stopthiscrap.com/. Or run "msconfig" in Start > Run and take MSN
Messenger SERVICE off the start-up. And there is help at:
http://www.popup-killer.info/messenger-spam/ and
http://www.blockmessenger.com/.

Alternatively:

Click Start->Control Panel
Click Performance and Maintenance
Click Administrative Tools
Double click Services
Scroll down and highlight "Messenger"
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK

Hope this helps!
