I have windows xp and trying to send video to someone
with 98 but can't seem to get it working. Message came up
telling other person to upgrade their version of Windows.
Is this necessary??? Shouldn't we be able to both use
netmeeting with differnt version of windows??

Greetings Mel,
The "Start Camera" option in Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger 5 on Windows XP is for the
built-in voice/video conversation support in Messenger -- not Netmeeting. As such, your
contact will need to have Windows XP to use that particular feature.
Instead, just ask your contact to click their Actions menu in their Messenger client, and
choose "Start Netmeeting". You'll be able to accept the request. If you'd like to add the
"Start Netmeeting" option back to your Messenger client, you'll need to put your client into
compatibility mode. To do so:
For Windows Messenger 4.x,
Close down messenger (right-click icon in the notification area/system tray and click Exit),
then click Start, point to All Programs and right-click the Windows Messenger shortcut and
click Properties. Then, click the compatibility tab, and check the box next to 'Run this
program in compatibility mode for' and choose Windows 2000. Click OK, and then go into the
start menu/all programs again, and click the Windows Messenger shortcut you just modified.
You should now see MSN Messenger, and 'Start Netmeeting' should be in your conversation
windows.
For MSN Messenger 5,
Close down MSN Messenger (right-click icon in the notification area/system tray and click
Exit), then click Start, click Run, enter "%programfiles%\msn messenger" and click OK. Then,
right-click "msnmsgr" and click Properties. Then, click the compatibility tab, and check the
box next to 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and choose Windows 2000. Click OK,
and then go to Start, All Programs, and MSN Messenger 5.0 to restart it.
To start Netmeeting, then just click the Actions menu in any conversation window, and choose
"Start Netmeeting". Note, by using compatibility mode, the built-in video support in
Messenger will
be disabled, but you can re-enable it by turning off compatibility mode.
