Can anyone help with the following problem?

I have 3 Windows XP Pro stations where I disabled MSN
Messenger from running at start up using gpedit.msc but
still allowed it to be run normally from the .exe file.

After doing this Outlook Express ran slowly on each of the
systems which is a common problem although it shouldnt
happen.

After this I found I couldnt even run Messener from the
exe file on any of the systems with this problem. I
removed and reinstalled Messenger from the windows
components in add/remove programs, but still no effect.

I know if I got messenger running again Outlook Express
would be fine, but it dosnt even run now from the .exe it
just sits there.

Any ideas or help would be great???????????

Greetings Andy,

If you just want to fix it so Outlook Express runs properly, download and run the following
..reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/stopmessenger_oe.reg

This will stop Messenger from being integrated with Outlook Express, thereby stopping it from
"freezing" when it attempts to load Messenger on startup.

If you want to actually make Messenger start working again, see:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=302089
Go through the applicable steps, except when choosing 'Do not allow Windows Messenger to
run', be sure it's set to Disabled. If you're using the registry method (the last method
listed on the page), instead of setting a 'PreventRun' DWORD, delete it (as above with the
Hide Messenger DWORD). You may need to reboot to see the change.
