I just installed a Buffalo Wireless G access point for
home-use. I've set the NAT settings and all the functions
(video, remote assitance) of messenger worked fine,
except file transfer. It always says connection failed,
what should I do?

Greetings David,
The Buffalo Wireless G AP/Router supports Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), which is what
Messenger uses for Remote Assistance, voice/video conversations, etc. However, Windows
Messenger does not currently have UPnP-enabled file transfer, which is why this isn't
working. You'll need to use MSN Messenger 5:
(http://messenger.msn.com/download/download.asp?client=1) which does support UPnP-enabled
file transfer.

I have exactly the same problem (also using Buffalo wireless G54
router), but I know that I don't like the "MSN Messenger 5" as it
comes with a lot of advertisement and I like the clean GUI of "Windows
Messenger 4.7" better. Does anyone know if Microsoft is working on a
newer version of Windows Messenger 4.8 that would support
UPnP-file-transfer under Windows messenger? and if not, where could we
send them (customer support) emails for this suggestion? Thanks!

Greetings,
Whether or not the next version of Windows Messenger (5.0) will have UPnP enabled file
transfer is still up in the air, but I would venture on the side of no. However, the Windows
Messenger development team is *very* aware that this is a feature that people want *grin*.

Thanks!
BTW, how about the Microsoft MN-500 wireless router? Does it also has
the same problem just like the Buffalo G54 wireless router (both are
supporting uPNP).. thanks!

Hi,
Yes it does -- since it relies on UPnP for this sort of thing, file transfers through the
MN-500 via Windows Messenger 4.7 won't work.
