View Full Version : User Accounts tool not opening

December 21st 03, 03:49 PM
I have just set a laptop with XP and have an Admin
account. When I want to add other user's and attempt to
do this through the 'User Accounts' tool in control
panel. Nothing happens - it doesn't open.
The only way that I can create or change user accounts is
through Computer Management - Local users and groups.
Does anyone know why this is happening. I would
preferably like to user the user acccounts tool.

Jim,

Change the Windows Classic theme and try opening the User Accounts =
applet. If this works, the problem is with the theme you are using. Try =
this command as well:
mshta.exe "res://nusrmgr.cpl/nusrmgr.hta"

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

I have switched to classic theme but it still does not
work. I have run the command that you suggested and
nothing happened - I didn't even get an error message.

I have restarted PC just to refresh but doesn't work.
Thanks for help tho.

Regards

James

I have a similiar problem where the user account box in
the control panel is blank. Where you would normally see
the user names and the prompts to add a user, make
changes, etc.. it is just a white box. Any idea how to
repair this, will a reinstall on the top of the current
installation fix it? I tried changing to the classic
view, but there is no change. This is WINXP SP/1 with
current updates as of about 12/8/03.

James,

Try performing SFC /Scannow [Insert your XP CD in the drive and type =
"SFC /Scannow" in a DOS box]
Once the core files are restored, type "regsvr32 /i nusrmgr.cpl"
Restart

Bob,

I've seen this issue resolved by registering the Oleaut32.dll. Try this:

Click Start | Run | type "regsvr32 oleaut32.dll"
then "regsvr32 ole32.dll"
"regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll"

If this does not help, try performing a system restore rollback.

bob,
I think my installation was corrupt from the start.
I discovered lots of other errors so thought best to re-
install.
All works fine now.
Thanks
