XP folder listing order - changing default

How can I get XP to default to name order folder listings when navigating to
open files/folders within apps ?
I get very annoyed when most apps, other than MS Office (eg PaintShopPro,
Windows Media Player etc.) list folders in date modified order.
You can use the 'arrange icons by...' right click option on white space
within the save/open dialog box - but it is very inconvenient when my
folders have purposefully been created with names in alphanumeric order on
the assumption that they will be presented in the required order.
