Hi,

I have a desktop and a tablet PC, both running Win XP,
networked via a router that also shares a cable modem
between the computers. I want to use Windows Messenger to
send messages back and forth between the tablet and the
desktop.

On the desktop, I set up a .net passport account with the
email address . On the tablet, I set up
a .net passport account with the email address
.

On the desktop, I start Windows Messenger. It says
, click here to sign in. I click and it
signs me in to (!?)

At the tablet, I start Windows Messenger. It says click
here to sign in to (!?). I click, and it
signs me in to (!??) Back at the
desktop I get a message saying I've been signed out
because I signed in on another computer.

If anybody can tell me what the heck is going on here and
how to set up .net passport and Windows messenger to get
around this problem, I'd sure appreciate it.

That's what I tried to do by setting up two different .net
passport accounts, one on each computer. That's what
doesn't seem to work.

Greetings Ken,

Firstly, on both your tablet and desktop, do the following:
Click the Start Button, then click the Control Panel. Then,
click User Accounts in the Control Panel. Select your account name, and then on the left side
of the screen, under Related Tasks, click 'Manage my Network Passwords'. In the window that
opens, click the Passport.Net\* (Passport) entry and click 'Remove'.

Then, click Sign In on both PCs, enter the correct login and password on both that you want,
and check the 'automatic sign in box' if appropriate.

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for your help. I followed your instructions, then
signed in to Win Messenger on the tablet as
. At the desktop, I signed in by
typing as the email address. I am now
able to send messages back and forth.

Strangely, however, on the desktop, I ended up being
signed in as . On the tablet, it
shows one person on line, namely .
On the desktop, it shows two people on line, both having
the email address .

I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that
when from the tablet I invite the desktop to share an
application, and the desktop accepts, the sharing session
window appears on the tablet, but waiting... appears at
the bottom. It never connects.

Thanks again for your help. This stuff really is puzzling.
