winsock crashes home XP

Downloading spyware caused crash of winsock file.
Can send and receive e-mail but no access to internet.
Provider states it is microsoft problem.
How do you resolve problem?

Hello,

I really do not recommend you to install spyware. Most people want to get
rid of spyware.

What is the error message you get? But, if their software is not compatible
with winsock, i cannot understand how it would be Microsoft's problem.
