have run into many strange error message while
attmepting to upgrade my Dell 8100 from ME to XP. I now
have installed a new BIOS, and attempt to use clean boot
(although I get one greyed out check mark on reboot- no
clue how to fix this).
No after XP is installing the prep files it says :
"The File C:\$WIN_NT$.NLS\i386\ASMS\1000
\MSFT\windows\GDIplus\GDIPLUS.CAT is invalid. It contains
all zeros."
It then exits out of the install.
I have no i386 directory in my ME install, so it must be a
new one it is installing itself. I look on the CD and
find this exact directory structure, and file. When I
double click on it it tells me that the file it
says "invalid security catalog file".
What is going on? The disc looks pretty good and clean
except for a couple minor surface dot blemishes.
I cant seem to get free online microsoft support since I
need a product code which I think I can only get after it
is installed.
This is the toughest install I have ever dealt with, and
Ive done a bunch. Feeling screwed,
Bart

Bart,
Already answered in the "newusers" group. If you are going to post to =
multiple groups, do so by placing the corresponding groups all in the =
address line, so the thread can be followed without see it and replying =
to them separately in those groups.

Thanks for the hint on posting to multiple - was not aware
I could. Do you mean to say one person has answered
in 'new users', you have answered, or you agree with the
answer posted there?
Thanks,
Bart
