When I try to sign into windows messenger, it
says "Signing into .NET messenger service failed because
the password is incorrect or the sign in name does not
exist. If you have forgotton your password..." This is
certainly not the case as I can access my e-mail via the
hotmail website. I have use messenger for years now, WHy
has this started to happen? Is there a simple thing I am
overlooking. And just incase anyone says it, Yes my e-mail
and password are typed in correctly.

Many Thanks
-Matt

Greetings Matt,

Here are some suggestions you might want to try/check:
1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that
the time and date are set.
2. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the
correct case (uppercase or lowercase).
3. Change your password @ http://memberservicesnet.passport.com/memberservice.srf, then try
signing in again.
4. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ), it's possible
that Messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the Internet. You may need to
re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall if this is the case.
5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try
restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an
installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled).

I have tried all 5 steps and none of them are the problem
or solve the problem, I have even gone as far as to remove
it entirely from my system and to re-download it, but to
no avail. Any further advice? Or am I going to have to re-
install windows?

Many thanks once again
Matt :D

I'm having the same probs. 4.6 works fine but 4.7 will
not sign it. I've tried all your suggestions and none
work. A glitch in the program maybe?

I too am having this same problem, and I have been for a
couple of days now. Tried everything I can think of, but
to no avail.
