I am doing a ram upgrade on a Sony Computer. When entering model # a ram
website calls for PC66 ram. Can I also use PC100 ram if the pin
configuration is the same?
Thanks, Tom

Greetings --
Depends on the specific motherboard. Many will accepted mixed RAM
types/speeds, but will run at the lower speed. Consult your manual or
Sony's web sites for the information concerning your specific
motherboard.

I suggest you go to www.crucial.com and check out their recommendations
for your specific model and that you purchase it from them.
Crucial has an excellent reputation for quality product and for
compatibiliy.
Good luck

Hi Tom,
XP can be extremely finicky about RAM. Also some laptops for example
will not run properly with non-spec RAM.
This is a problem in the laptop arena since the slower RAM can actually
cost more than the newer faster RAM.
I would suggest that you stick with; Crucial, Kingston, PNY. They will
cost more but it is worth the peace of mind.
To be honest, I haven't owned a desktop for years so I don't know if the
same rules apply.

Ron, I don't know about a Sony but if you use a faster chip it will run
but only at the lower sppeed. In your case 66 instead of 100. I would
contact Sony for the proper answer. They can tell you if you can use
that chip.
