View Full Version : Changing primary account

I have two accounts on Messenger. One, I use all the time, and the other
was automatically generated by my dial up MSN account that I use when
traveling.

I want to make the commonly used one the primary account, but I don't see
any way to reverse them on the Messenger sign on screen.

It also causes a problem on a MSN Newsgroup I'm in because I'll get a
message that I've tried too many times to log in under the wrong password,
even tho I'm logged in under the OTHER account.

Weird.

Greetings,

To change your "primary" Passport account in Windows XP, click Start, then Control Panel,
then User Accounts, click the current Windows XP account that you're logged in under, then
click "Change my .NET Passport", choose the "Use a Different Passport" button and go through
the wizard.

Note: if you're using MSN as a dialup provider (using MSN Explorer or MSN 8), it will still
attempt to log you on using that account -- to fix this (assuming that the account you want
to use as your primary account is a MSN.com or Hotmail.com account, just sign into MSN using
the "old" primary account, choose Help & Settings, then Settings, select "Create additional
member accounts" (#6), and add your account. You can then dialup using that account.
