Apologies if I have posted this to the wrong group. I clicked on "Windows
Update" and as usual the update page loaded up to which I clicked on the
"Scan my computer" link to search for updated files. Only one security
update was displayed to which I clicked on "install". This was the latest
Microsoft Java Virtual Machine update (version 3810). But however on the
download page nothing happened. I tried this a few times but the install
failed.

Has anyone come across this problem with their version of Windows XP?

I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1 updates and all
other updates prior to this update installed.

And finally how can I install the Java VM update if it does not download
from the windows update page?]

Thanks.

Bearing in mind the advice given in the previous post, you can download the update(without install) using the "Windows Update
Catalog" option on the "Windows Update" page and doing an "Advanced Search" for the keywords "virtual machine"
