Since I' m sick and tired of Outlook Express that refuse to let me send
any kind of reply to newsgroups, I have downloaded a news reader, but I
don't like the functionality of it

I'm wondering if any one could tell about a good news reader that has
the same functionality as Outlook Express, but with that bug about
replies

Sounds like that horrible and extremely annoying MSHTML.dll bug that keeps
on crashing MS-OE. I had that problem for quite a while because I expected
MS to fix it quickly since it was such an obvious error and I personally had
sent them about a hundred error reports. Finally I got tired of waiting on
MS and I did a fix the was recommended to me (thanks 'relic' for the
pointer).

Replace the mshtml.dll file in your system32 directory from version 1141
back to version 1126. Basically you just use the Search page (under the
Start button) to find all the mshtml.dll files on your system, then you
replace the horrible 1141 version with the better 1126 version. I made a
couple of directories to store copies of both versions to make the job
easier (it can be tricky to deal with two files of the same filename, the
directories can make it easier in case you want to be very careful).

OE hasn't crashed since.

YMMV - use at your own risk.

I'm able to cut back on my use of Ctrl+S...

This is the second silly obvious OE bug that we've had with updates from MS.
Remember that nonsense with the Switch Identites after SP1 ? Sigh...

The latest mshtml.dll (1173) which fixes this OE bug is explained at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=816506

The executable that installs 1173 is available at

What sucks is that MS hasn't made this available thru "Automatic =
Updates", since this seems to cause serious issues. Obviously, something =
causing crashes isn't something that should be just posted on their =
website for a search and fix!

Bless your little heart...

Many thanks.

I wish MS had bothered to tell me through Windows Update or by way of those
nice KB webpages that (sometimes, used to ?) come up after you send in an
error report that matches.
