Welcome screen displays what windows is doing.....

Hi,
I have a strange problem which Im not sure how has occured
but all of a sudden windows XP at the welcome screen or
when system is shutting down or switching user, it
displays underneath the name of the user messages as it
preforms instructions.

For example if Im logging in from welcome screen, it will
display "logging user in......playing
x:\windows\..notify.dll", or if Im shutting down it will
display "Shutting down....playing ..\shutdwn.dll etc, I
can not understand how this started happening but its
really annoying and dont really want to re-install. I know
that i did turn a few services off to speed it up, but
anything that I changed I reverted back in hope to correct
problem.

Any help is much appreciated.
