Just put Win XP Pro on. But then couldn't open Studio 8.3 ( video editing
prog - I'm half way through editing a film that's taken me about 30 hors
work in total!!). so then I tried re-installing it and it tells me it's not
a valid Win 32 file. So I opened the Studio cd and tried set up from there
and then I got the message "data error (cyclic redundancy check). So I went
into program files to open another video editing prog (since it appears that
my start-up shortcuts have all gone) and it told me registration invalid,
please reinstall. I put the disk in - and it isn't recognised.
Aaaarrggghhhh! System is AMD Ath 2200 chip, 100 G HDD, 512 RAM.

Did you run the upgrade advisor? If you did did you read the report?

No I didn't because I had no internet access then. where can I find it?

it strikes me that this is a total mess. first xp does not like to
installed over itself even more than other MS OS's. 2.) never upgrade
from one OS to another no mater what you have been told. It doesn't work
out most times in particular with xp. 3) there will be programs that are
supposed to work with xp and don't and there will be programs that
aren't supposed to work that do. get used to it it is a fact. 4.) if you
reinstalled xp over its self rather than did a repair this could be your
problem. 5) if you use the xp backup program and a CD-R or CD_RW you can
save all the programs bit don't hold your breath about them working
after you reformat and reinstall the xp pro, Hint: partition the disk so
that the xp and utility programs are on it and create at least one other
partition for your programs and data.6) do not expect the xp
compatibility program to work as I have never had it working on
anything. after you have done all this do not ever reinstall an
operating system over itself. I had so many programs that xp would not
run I installed a 40gig slave drive and installed 98se and put them on
it. now everything seems to work the way it is supposed to. good luck to
you and I hope you get everything to work.

In device manager I have "SIS accelerated graphics Port" and it says I have
no driver for that. So any idea where I get it?

Yes, go to the mobo manufacturers web site and download it
is the
safest way. Next best is to go to the SIS site, but more
chance for error as
they don't support particular boards.

As 'madgarner' said in a later post "this is a mess". How many hard drives
do you have? If you have a spare slot on your IDE I would, if that data is
so precious, go out and buy a good HDD, 40 gigs cost peanuts these days and
will provide plenty of room for XP, remove the drive (c:?) that your
precious data is on, install the new drive with jumpers, cable position
etc. as c: and do a clean install of XP. Then reinstall all of your
software, latest versions from manufacturers' sites. Then connect your
precious data back in and use XP to recover what you can.
