View Full Version : New Win-xp IM deletes "Make a phone Call"

I use the IM for both audio and audio visual communications with friends
around the country who have high speed connections. I also use the "Make a
phone call" feature as all calls within the USA are at the flat rate of two
cents per minuet.
I note the newest up-date which I do not want to load, eliminates the phone
call feature. My question: Is there a way to stop the Windows Messenger from
sending the pop-up and other notices about a new version of messenger is
available?

Greetings Wally,
First close down Messenger (right-click its icon in the notification area/system tray and
choose Exit), then download and run this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/disableupdate.reg
You can then restart Messenger and it will no longer prompt you that there is an updated
version.
Note: the "Make a Phone Call" feature still remains in MSN Messenger 5, although as you've
probably read, MSN Messenger 5 is not an upgrade to Windows Messenger, and in order to retain
full functionality, you have to leave both installed.
