View Full Version : Manually deleting Restore Points

I know the normal way to delete all but the last via Disc Cleanup/Advanced,
but would like to keep several of the latest ones until I resolve a
particular problem.
If I check my restore points, I find I have 19, going back to 1 April (I
thought they were supposed to drop off after 1 week).
My query is this.
What would be the repercussions, if any if I did the following -
In C:\System Volume Information, I have a (1.96Gb) hidden folder,
"_restore{AA29E1BC-F303-450E-9DDA-30B4E29797C9}"
In that folder, I have 19 subfolders, RP431 to RP449, the modified dates
agreeing with the dates on the Restore Point "calendar".
What would happen if I manually deleted, say, RP431 - RP445 to give me the
later option of restoring back several days?

It is a cumulative restore set. If you cut one out of the middle, you trash them
all.

No, you didn't read it right, Mark.
I said delete from the oldest (RP431), in sequence, through to the 15th.
(RP445), leaving the 4 latest ones in-situ.

No, if you cut off the last one, what's left won't have a tail. The Cleanup
utility will rewrite the tail.
