I want to uninstall Messenger.
But it won't let me, even though nothing is running when
I try the delete the directory.

There's also no uninstall option in my Control Panel for
this program.

I'm sick of Messenger pop-up adds, even though I removed
it from my Windows XP startup menu.

Please help....Bob

I used this run command that I found somewhere on line. I cant remember
where I got it but I am sure it was reputable source. Any how it has worked
fine on my computer and several of my friends computers. (But of course I
have to say use at your own risk. Back up your reg first if you are going to
try.)

Go to start | run and paste this in the run line and it removes messenger
completely!

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Greetings Bob,

Motorhead's post will fully remove Windows Messenger, but do these "popups" that are
appearing have "Messenger Service" in their titlebar? If so, what you're seeing is the
Messenger service built-in to Windows, *not* Windows Messenger (which are two different
things) which spammers are exploiting -- this is not Microsoft, nor can Microsoft control
them anymore then they can control spam to your e-mail inbox.

To get rid of these pop ups, you'll need to disable the "Messenger Service", click Start,
then Run, enter "services.msc"and click OK. Scroll down to "Messenger", select it,
right-click and then choose Properties. Under startup type, choose 'Disabled' and then
choose the 'Stop' button. After the service is stopped, click OK. Nothing in Windows or any
real third-party applications should be effected by this.
