View Full Version : What Ports should I keep closed?

Hi!

I have Norton Firewall, and I was wondering what ports I
should have closed. The only thing I do on my comp is use
the internet, download off of Kazaa, check my e-mail, and
play counterstrike online. Do I need more than 4 ports
open all of the time? I'm just trying to reduce my chances
of being hacked. I get alerts ALL THE TIME that people are
trying to get into my computer via "sub 7 trojan" and
whatnot. Thanks!

Greetings,

Well, realistically, you should have all ports closed, except those that you're using -- in
the Norton Firewall, you can actually have a different range or number of ports, based upon
the application -- and in most cases, the "automatic" setting works quite well (in the 2003
version, Automatic should work fine with Messenger).
