hotmail and microsoft update

All of a sudden I can't access my hotmail account through
my cable modem. The internet works but I can't log on to
hotmail and I can't receive Windows updates. I haven't
changed any security settings or anything like that. This
happened a few weeks ago as well and I uninstalled and
reinstalled Windows in order to solve it. What else can I
do?

Try deleting the passport cookies.

Try waiting a while. For reasons I cannot explain, sometimes HOTMAIL and
other MSN mail accounts seem to just "go to lunch". Eventually they come
back. The longest time was almost 2 days. I sent an email to
but never got a reply.
