go>start\control panel\administrative tools\services\and
right click on Automatic Updates and then choose
properties and in the window that comes up you will see a
line with startup type. Click the drop down list arrow
just to the right of this line and choose disabled and
then click apply and click your way out. Now you will only
get updates when you are on the internet and have IE6 open
and then click the tools at the top and the windows update
link there. I hate automatic updates so that is how I have
it for all my programs. I update when I want not when the
machine or a program decides to do it. You just never know
when your system is being accessed when that sort of
behaviour is allowed. Good luck.
