Why when I rename a file does it not immediately take? I
have to go back or get out of the current page and come
back to it for it to register the new file name.

How do I correct this?

Maybe I misunderstand, do you try to REName a file while it is open?
Or do you REName the file from the Folder it is located in?

Let me start from the beginning.

Two Parts:

1) When I create a New Folder, an icon of one appears
with the name "New Folder." I want to rename this, so I
right click, select rename, enter my new file name, hit
enter. It doesn't appear, I must back up and go back
into my file directory, and the new folder name now takes.

2) Same thing happens to contents within a folder that I
want to change their name. I copy Word documents and
Excel spreadsheets into a new folder. Once the copied
Word and Excel items are now in a new folder, they are
still individually named as the original file name that
was previously given. I right click each of these,
select rename, type in the new file names, enter and the
new file names are not there (it appears as the original
until I go back or leave completely and return to this
file folder), then and only then is it now the new name
that is given.

I'm not sure if this is an XP problem, but the file names
have changed immediately in the past for me on Windows
98, etc.

Appreciate any help you can offer.

There has to be an answer to this somewhere, so far I can't find it.

Sorry,
Jerry
