WHEN I CLOSE DOWN WIN XP, AT THE LAST MOMENT THE SCREEN
TURNS BLUE AND THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE
APPEARS "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". IT ALSO SHOW TECH INFO
*** STOP: 0x0000000A
(0X000002DC,0X000000FF,0X00000000,0X804ECBC1). BECAUSE I
AM A YOUNG MAN OF 86 YEARS, I DO NOT TRUST MYSELF TO TRY
AND MAKE CHANGES IN THE REGISTRY. SO MY QUESTION IS " MAY
I JUST DELETE WIN XP HOME AND THEN RELOAD? OR IS THERE
ANOTHER SOLUTION. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.

that might not do the ttrick, I'm not sure but it could be a entry in your
BIOS that is causing this.

Oscoe, I'd try a repair of XP by booting from the CD and following the
instructions, viz:

>>Boot the WinXP CD, run a repair installation. You will need your Product
>>Key for this, these are the steps:
>>
>>1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
>>drive.
>>2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to start
>>from the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer
>>again.
>>3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
>>4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
>>5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you
>>want to repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
>>6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.
>>
>>(Thanks to Rick Rogers for these instructions.)

before doing anything so drastic as deleting it.

Just out of interest, have you checked in the device manager to see if you
have any yellow exclamation marks against any hardware devices?
