What a major annoyance! How in the heck do I get rid of
all these popups? I have NO Messenger listed at all in
my control panel, so I can't remove it from there.
Just got another popup as I type this! Aaargh!

Greetings Victoria,
Do these "popups" that are appearing have "Messenger Service" in their titlebar? If so, what
you're seeing is the Messenger service built-in to Windows, *not* Windows Messenger (which
are two different things) which spammers are exploiting -- this is not Microsoft, nor can
Microsoft control them anymore then they can control spam to your e-mail inbox.
To get rid of these pop ups, you'll need to disable the "Messenger Service", click Start,
then Run, enter "services.msc"and click OK. Scroll down to "Messenger", select it,
right-click and then choose Properties. Under startup type, choose 'Disabled' and then
choose the 'Stop' button. After the service is stopped, click OK. Nothing in Windows or any
real third-party applications should be effected by this.

"Click Start, and then Run. Type services.msc into the box and click OK.
Scroll down to Messenger, select it by right-clicking it and then choose
Properties. Under subcategory startup type, click on arrow then choose
Disabled, then choose the Stop button. After the service is stopped, click
OK. Nothing in Windows or any real third-party applications should be
affected by this."

Another solution is if you are using a firewall of some sort, make sure it
is blocking incoming traffic on ports 135-139 and port 445.
Johnathan's solution will definitely eliminate the "Messenger Service"
popups.

I have been having the same problem even with a fresh install.
How do they do it?, get in that is. I have a software firewall and latest
version of NAV running.
Thanks for the Tip!
