I am using a Windows XP Pro machine (Athlon XP 1900+, 512
RAM, gigabyte motherboard). When I boot the machine up it
goes into windows sometimes. Other times it runs through
its intial boot up sequence but when it goes to detect IDE
drives it just sits there. This problem didnt start
occuring until the machine was unplugged and moved. When
the machine does successfully make it to windows I cannot
use the start button or get into my computer. Are viruses
killing motherboards? How would I go about finding out the
cause of this problem and any possible solutions. thank you

I would suspect that moving the machine loosened some hardware cable or card for
the harddrive

Checked all cables and cards. Everything is securley
connected. Is it possible that a small amount of
electricity messed up, or altered the settings in the
BIOS?

I suppose it's worth considering that it might be a bad battery on the MoBo.
