View Full Version : messenger video chat with 2 computers behind a router

We have a ADSL connection with a Draytek Vigor 2600 ADSL
modem-router. Both computers use messenger and both
computers have a webcam. With the first computer there no
problem heving a videochat. But with the second computer
it is impossible to get a video connection. Always the
same message: can not connect up to the other computer on
the internet. I tried (almost) everything to get the
second cam started on the videochat with messenger.
I opened all ports from the router and the DNZ host: still
nothing works. Both computers use MSN Messenger 4.7.
Internal static Ip-adres was enabled. What the hell else
can I do to enable video chat through MSN Messenger on the
second computer. I use Windows XP Home Edition.
Is this a bloody XP-problem or a bloody Messenger problem.
The producer (through the help-desk) stated that with the
Draytek Vigor 2600 modem-router it should be possible for
both computers to video-chat on the internet.
I downloaded the programm "Eyeball Chat" and with this
programm video chat with both computers is possible!!!!!!!
So it must have something to do with MSN Messenger

Greetings Ton,
Messenger uses Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) to establish voice/video connections through
routers and other NATs. The Draytek Vigor 2600 does support UPnP (with its latest firmware),
so yes, both PCs should be able to set up a video connection.
Firstly, make sure you have the latest firmware -- found here:
http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/index.html
If you did have to update the firmware, reboot, then shut down Messenger (right-click the
Messenger icon in the notification area/system tray, by the clock, and click Exit), then
click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications, Network Connections. Right-click the
"Internet Gateway" (should be under the Internet Gateway heading) and choose Properties.
Choose the Settings button, click each 'msmsgs' or 'msnmsgr' entry and then choose 'Delete'
to each one. Then close Messenger (right-click the Messenger icon, choose Exit), then restart
Messenger. After Messenger is started again, go through the Audio (and Video) Tuning Wizard
by clicking the Tools menu, then Audio Tuning Wizard. After the wizard is complete, try a
voice/video conversation from both PCs.

Greetings Jonathan,
Thanks for yor answer.
We did what you suggested, but still it does not work!
After (your message) "Internet Gateway" (should be under
the Internet Gateway heading) abd choose properties -->
that is what we did but then we are getting an error
message saying (translated from Dutch into English):
"The computer on which sharing-internet is enanbled
(switched on?), is not configured in that way, that the
user can use or switch off this option. This option can be
changed on the computer on which internet-sharing is on
(switched in). For this open the dialog screen properties
of the connection and go to tab advanced"
But there is no tab advanced????!!!
What we also can not find is the message (see your
answer) :
Your phrase: "Chosse the settings button, click
each 'msmsgs' or 'msnmsgr' entry and than choose 'Delete'.
There is no way what so ever to find 'msmsgs' or 'msnmsgr'
on our screens.
Conclusion: it is a puzzlement!
Me be you know what we do wrong.
Following your steps does not bring us any further,
unfortunately.
Greetings,
Ton Salari

Hi Ton,
I'm not exactly sure what the error is getting to (I can't think of anything similar that
I've seen there).
Anyway, I never said anything about an Advanced tab (you must have read one of my other
posts), what you're looking for is a Settings button, see here:

In order to get the setting button to work on a Draytek Vigor, you
have to switch on the Connection Control Service in the uPnP setup
page of the routers web interface.
However, I still can't get voicechat to work with this router.....
