Will Windows Messenger 5 use UPnP for file transfers and video / voice
communications like MSN Messenger ?

If so what is the proper way to setup XP for UPnP ? This is what I did
but it doesn't to always seem to work.

1, Windows Components, install under Network Service 'Universal Plug
and Play'.

2, Under services set 'Universal Plug and Play' to automatic

This needs to be done at both ends then e.g video chat will work ? in
theory.... ??

Using MSN Messenger 5 with a Linksys BEFSR41 router with firmware
1.44.2 with UPnP enabled. Also with ZoneAlarm Pro, latest version,
internet security set to medium (i.e ports are open). File transfers
work, voice works, video only ever one way.... and nobody seems to
have a sensible answer or idea why not :-(

Well given 4.7 does for video and voice I'm sure I'm convinced by your
argument.

It doesn't and won't have UPnP file transfers. I have the 5.0 beta, it does
not have UPnP file transfers and it does not plan on having it either.
