Greetings,

Looks like lots of people are having the same problems -
no audio or video capabilities across the internet.

AOL IM works great for video, too bad it doesn't have
audio. AIM popped up immediately without any major
problems. Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger are
failures. I had an open case with desktop support at
Microsoft this week about all this. Absolutely useless!
They sell us on cool ideas but the products don't work.

If anyone has the audio, video, remote assitance and app
sharing working across the Internet, please let us all
know what you did. I've made all kinds of adjustments to
my Linksys firewall settings and it still doesn't get
Messenger working. Thanks in advance.

Greetings Keith,

I assume you meant AIM works great for Audio, but not Video. In order to use voice/video
through Messenger and a router/NAT-based firewall, it must support Universal Plug and Play
(UPnP) or have other built-in Messenger support. A large portion of the Linksys product line
supports UPnP, you may just need the latest firmware:
http://www.linksys.com/download
After installing the latest firmware, go into the configuration and toggle UPnP on (usually
in the Password tab). After engaging UPnP, reboot, and you should be able to use
voice/video, remote assistance, etc. in Messenger, without any configuration.

I have figured it out with my linksys router. I have to
log into windows messenger 4.7 and it connects fine
audio/video/whitboard/remote desktop all work fine.

All I did was installed them again after the router was
hooked up and my Upnp turned on. then reset my cable
modem as to see the new settings.

Also you need to make sure that in your firewall you have
your permissions set to "permit all" and you have the
file "rtcshare.exe" permissions to to permit all in your
firewall. (I run Norton internet securities 2003)

Hope this helps
