How can set up my router and messenger to allow file
transfers in windows messenger 4.7 with Win XP Pro SP1?

I can't even send files inside my LAN to other messenger
clients?!
I thought about port forwarding on my router but that
would route file transfers to one computer only and surely
file transfers use the same ports for all computers on the
LAN!
Any help would be greatfully received

Greetings Karl,

A few Belkin routers have support for Messenger file transfer built-in to them, usually
activated by setting a particular user in the DMZ of the router (yes, only one PC can do it).
However, sending files to other clients behind the router should work (assuming that the
built-in Messenger support isn't conflicting) -- it may just be that the Internet Connection
Firewall has been engaged (do this on all PCs) -- click Start, then click the Control Panel.
If you're in category view click Network and Internet connections then click Network
Connections. Right click your network/internet connection, then click Properties. Click the
Advanced Tab, and verify that the Internet Connection Firewall is unchecked.

Thanx but i had no luck with that setup either! i thort about port
triggering or something on my router but i don't seem to be able to
find any where with any good information on setting my router up!

It is a Belkin 4 Port router with a NAT and i am told that this
effects file transfers and voice and video

Hi,

You might try updating to the latest version of the Belkin router firmware, however, no
guarantees:

As for setting up the DMZ and setting up your router, just check your router's documentation.
