alerts wont go away

I set my preferences in Windows Messenger to not display
alerts when I get an email, a contact comes online, etc.
Why am I still getting them and how do I get rid of them?

Greetings Chris,

They all should work -- except for the e-mail one. You can however, turn off the e-mail
notification by turning off the MSN Add-In. To do so, open the main Messenger window, click
the Tools menu, then Add-Ins, then click MSN.
