Does someone know if this is a bug in xp. I have a 147gb
scsi hard drive. I created 122gb for c: drive and the rest
for extended drive which is a d: drive. Windows xp dis not
format the drive during the install. When xp came up and
look at the drive properties, it did not see the remaining
118gb hard drive but it did see a 17.5gb. I need to know
when to retrieve the 118gb space left. thank for your
response.

Does the bios need to be upgraded to to work with the larger hard drive?

Assuming your motherboard or controller does recognise 147G, is there a
utility from the HD supplier.

What I would like to know is HOW you created 2(two) partitions, 1 of
122gb, from a 147gb hard drive, and still expect to find 118gb which is
"missing". Perhaps you are not telling us the whole story.

Did you MEAN to say that you have 2 physical hard drives, one of which
is 118gb, and one of which is a 147gb SCSI hard drive, from which you
created a 122gb partition (which should have left 25gb(minus overhead),
and now the SECOND physical hard drive of 118gb is now not showing up?

This is the only logical way to interpret what you have written, since
122+17.5+(147-122) does NOT equal 147gb.

If you REALLY meant to say what you wrote, do not expect to find the
"missing" 118gb, since it does not exist, except in a slipped decimal
point or something.

It sounds to me like the 17.5gb is the correct amount of free space
which should be left over (after partitioning overhead) on the SCSI HD
after creating a 122gb partition. So your SCSI HD has a 122gb
partition, with 17.5gb of free space remaining out of 147gb. (the
correct way to add it all up is to add the size of the partition you
created, then subtract the amount of free space left PLUS the amount of
space necessary for partitioning overhead, which, from my thinking,
would be 147-122-(7.5 -- the amount necessary for partitioning overhead)

By the way, XP will not create or format a partition unless you
EXPRESSLY tell it to.
