Continuance of an old post, still need help.

Problem is i can't select my own JPG images as wallpaper, and the Web
tab is missing from my "Customize Desktop" properties.

Found a MS support article about the tab being gone, and how to fix, but
only pertained to WinME and previous. No instruction for XP. Also found
an article on being unable to select JPG as wallpaper, but that says the
problem was fixed in SP1. Well, not on my SP1.

Any further help with this would be appreciated.

Start the operating system from the CD-ROM,

When the computer starts from the CD, the system checks your hardware

and then prompts you to select one of the following options:

To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

Press ENTER.

Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.

A box lists your current Windows XP installation, and then the system

prompts you to select one of the following options:

To repair the selected Windows XP installation, press R.

To continue installing a fresh copy of Windows XP without repairing, press ESC.

Press R to start the automatic repair process. After repairing Windows XP,

you may need re-download all updates.

Nothing has changed. i really don't know what to do at this point.

Is there any way i can track down the ClassID that the registry is
supposed to point to and restore that reference? i am stuck....

Lack of a web tab indicates a broken ActiveX component. I would think the repair
(and therefore IE reinstall, including the activeX registration) should have
been done. i.e "regsvr32 shdocvw.dll"

My next look at that would be a run through of the DirectX tests. Go to
start/run, and type: DXDIAG

I don't really have a guess about what has been done to the registry, but it
should have some ActiveX component, anyway.
