Hey folks,
I was under the impression that opening up ports TCP 6891 to 6900
permits file sending in Windows Messenger. However, this doesn't seem to be
the case for me and my Linksys BEFW11S4 router. Must I switch to MSN
Messenger, complete with its permanent advertising window and annoying side
tabs?
Thanks for advice,
Dave

Greetings Dave,
If you turn off UPnP in the router (which will stop voice/video and other Messenger features
from working), depending on what firmware version you're using, the built-in file sending
support in the router will turn on. However, with UPnP on, yes, you do need to use MSN
Messenger 5, as its the only Messenger client currently that supports UPnP file transfer.
