View Full Version : Whats going wrong with Messenger

Well either I'm the only one seeing this problem which means maybe I've been
hacked or something; or there is something totally wrong with
passport/messenger. For the last three days (including weekend, 5 days) I
have had to change my password in order for me to get logged into messenger.
No, I'm NOT forgetting the password.
Here is what I'll do...In the morning (@ work) I'll try logging into
messenger. It'll fail, after several attempts I finally go to the passport
site and change my password. I then return to messenger and I log in with
NO problems. Then thru out the day if I reboot or get knocked off (T1 line)
when I try to log back in it again fails, the only way to get it to work is
to reset my password AGAIN!!!! When I go home and try logging in, I'll again
need to change the password. Now I'm really getting concerned because my
Universal MSDN uses this passport account to access my downloads.
I've searched all over the web and I have talked to many other developers
who are NOT experiencing a problem. What's up? Is it possible that the
someone else is changing my password? Is the system screwing up?
I would have just changed my account to another email had it not been for my
MSDN subscription.
Thanks

Hello Ken,
Interesting story to read on....
I don't think that some one is changing your password. If so then they
should know your old password - right. You've to enter both the exisitng
and new passwords for changing the passwords.
*** I recommend you to create a new account at hotmail
with a big password (alphanumeric) and try again ***
If you are only using the PC, tick mark the remember password checkbox
so that you don't have to reenter your passwords everytime you sign up.
I hope this helps. If not please let me know via this group so that others
will also benefit from the postings.

Thanks for the response but I guess I should have mentioned a few other
things...
First I actually use a very sophisticated alphanumeric password, meaning it
has letters, numbers, symbols, and their all mixed randomly.
Second, at first when I was having trouble I was changing the password back
and forth between two main passwords that I use that meet the above
sophistication. But the last few times I actually started creating a third,
forth, and so on.... passwords making very note of what they are to ensure
that I was NOT getting them wrong.
Third, I had actually implemented the "Save Password" check box, which is
why I thought it was really weird when I got prompted to retry to log in
because of password failure.
Forth and finally, I do use the SAME account all my laptop and my PC. I've
noticed that when logging into one system, the messenger service will log me
out from the other system. Which is exactly what I'd prefer.
As for changing my password, yes I do agree someone would need to know it,
and if someone does know it by getting from me then I must have talked in my
sleep. So nobody should know it. I was just concerned because this
behavior was funny and I remember reading about the recent hack of passport
where someone could get rights to change someone else password. So I got a
little concernned....
But as for changing to a new account....I'm thinking I should change my MSDN
subscription to point to the new messenger account, if created, but so far I
haven't found a location to do this. Since this was setup to this messenger
account when I first logged into my MSDN subscription.
But to make it even weirder...This morning I rebooted my work machine,
expecting that after doing so I would have to reset the password again, but
the messenger logged in just fine. I'm going to test my laptop again
tonight but last night it wasn't working and I didn't make the extra effort
of changing the password. So maybe all is better??????
I'll let you know.....
Sorry for the novel but I thought I'd better throw everything out on
table...that is except for my password...I'm not that dumb...lol
