startup problem

when i boot up in xp after the logo
i get an error message

endpoint
lsass.exe
it then hangs for a few seconds and reboots
if i pick use last know configuration i can get
it back up

lsass.exe is in the %windrv%\system32 directory
and there are numerous occurrances of it in the regitry
