Greetings Steve,

Under the user, do the following:
Download and run these .reg files (just download and choose Run)
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/dingfix.reg
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/wm_soundfix.reg

Note: in the last .reg file, if your Messenger installation isn't in C:\, you'll need to open
it in Notepad and change the drive letter.

After these are imported, reboot, log back into that account and see if they work.

Hi Jonathan.
I have tried as you suggested but still have no sounds,
very confused as the 3 other accounts on this computer
all have the right notification sound's. Its not that
important, just 1 of those thing's that annoy's.
The beep when someone signs in is coming fom the tower,
not the speaker's,
Thank's for your assistance.

Hi Steve,

The only other solution I have for you is this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=262256

Note, where it says <No Name>, it means literally that there will be nothing there (just a
blank space).

Hi Steve,

Yes, that's the way it should be (no problems there) -- I'm afraid you've got me stumped, as
a workaround, you could just make another user account, and then copy over the users data (of
course, with mail, etc. it can get complicated).

It is unbelievable that this little null value deprived my system of
its sound for more than a year, and several times reinstalling the
system even could not fix it. I am back to normal baby!
