I upgraded a couple computers from win98 to XP and now
have several issues with different functions. I have installed
Xp before but as a clean install and never had any problems like this
so I am thinking it has something to do with the upgrade over win98.

1. There is only one user on each of these computers. When I go into
the User accounts under control panel, the user window is blank on
both computers.

2. Looking for help, clicked on the help and support button and got an
hour glass for a few seconds and the nothing comes up. No help and
support ever appears.

3. Tried to check for updates hoping for some fixes, but the update
page is blank, but in the status bar, it says done. All other pages
load just fine.

4. Tried to install norton system works, but it says no
common client core 1.0.2 installed.

I did update after installing Xp off the update web site. So it is XP
Pro with service pack 1 installed. My research showed me that this
common client core is the root of many operations. Wondering if this
is the main problem for everything else not working. if so how can I
get it installed without reformating the drives.

Other than thse problems everything else is workign just fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Start the operating system from the CD-ROM,

When the computer starts from the CD, the system checks your hardware

and then prompts you to select one of the following options:

To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

Press ENTER.

Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.

A box lists your current Windows XP installation, and then the system

prompts you to select one of the following options:

To repair the selected Windows XP installation, press R.

To continue installing a fresh copy of Windows XP without repairing, press ESC.

Press R to start the automatic repair process. After repairing Windows XP,

you may need re-download all updates.
