Hi ! I'm running an Intellistation M-Pro with XP-Pro and
am having difficulty installing a third dirve. My master
drive (disk 0) is an 9gig IDE partitioned in two for dual
boot The slave (disk 1) is a 4gig SCSI. Both these disks
are healthy. I purchase an 80gig Maxtor IDE drive that I
am having difficulty installing. The jumper is on slave,
XP picks up the new hardware but when the wizard tries to
initialize the disk I get an error message: "Local disk
manager could not write the disk configuration" Under
Computer Management/Disk Management the window for disk 2
states that it is still initializing and that the drive
is unallocated. Any suggestions on how to get the drive
working? Thanks Stefan

Are you formatting it? If so, are you trying to make it FAT32 cos XP won't
go over 32gig and you get that error after it has formatted the drive. It's
a pain because I dual boot to 98SE and XP so I don't want NTFS since 98
won't read it. I had to use Partition Magic to format a 64Gb partition as
Fat32.
